Day One of Quote Week in Rachel Land!

It's quote week in Rachel land!!  I am going to post one "inspirational" quote a day for a week starting today.  Well here's the first one;
Distrust any enterprise that requires new clothes.  :)
~ Henry David Thoreau (author)  Haha!  Just kidding, here is the real first one;

Don't wait for extraordinary opportunities.  Seize common ones and make them great.
~ Orison Swett Marden (author)

Thanks for reading!

Random Fruit Facts!

Ok, so I was thinking it'd be cool to have some random facts on my blog.  Well...here you go!
·Banana trees are actually herbs.  This surprised me a lot.
·Mangoes belong to the same family as poison Ivy!  Now I dislike Mangoes even more!
·Passion fruits were first grown in Brazil. (another fact about Brazil; the capital is Brasília!)
·Lemon trees can produce 2,000 fruits a year!!  (Of course it depends on how old they are, and how healthy they are.)
·If you rub the inside of a banana peel on a mosquito bite, the itchiness will go away!
·There are over 400 varieties of Kiwi in China.
·Apples may reduce the risk of many kinds of cancer!  An Apple a day keeps the Dr. away!
·Strawberries were used as sacred symbols by Christian stonemasons.
One more fun fact;
·All of these facts I got from playing Fruit Ninja!!  (Except the capital of Brazil.)
Please feel free to comment.

Roger Rabbit

I have a really cool rabbit named Roger, who looks about like the one in the picture.  He is really big.  I love rabbits.  Here is a poem I wrote about rabbits.
I wanted to use rabbit instead of bunny but nothing rhymes with rabbit.
I have a bunny,
he is very cute.
He can be kinda funny,
and he likes to eat fruit.
He likes it when its sunny,
and he wants to play the flute.
I have a silly bunny,
he is VERY cute.

CATS!!

I love almost all animals but I especially love cats.  Why you ask?  Just because.  They're cute, cuddly and loving.  I have had several cats, right now I have one named Porsche.  My favorite kind of cats are silver tabbies.  There is a picture above.

Seasons

I love to write poems.  Here is one I wrote last fall called seasons.
Summer and sun, there is so much fun.
Fall and breeze, there are lots of leaves.
Winter and snow, out to play I go.
Spring and rain, saying goodbye to winter, is the pain.
-Rachel DJ
:) I will post more later.

Reading

Hi again! I love reading just as much as writing.  I think it's important to read lots of books if you want to be a writer.  You learn what kind of books you like and the style of writing you like.  I read a lot!  I am reading the Hidden Diary series now.  They are very good!  They are about two girls named Serena and Lucy that found a diary that was written in 1932 by Serena's great grandmother (also named Serena), and her best friend Mary.   Serena and Lucy try to copy everything Serena and Mary did like doing something scary and making a bold fashion change.  There are 4 books in the series. I am on book 3.  Other books I like are The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes series, the Babysitters Club series and the Nancy Drew series.  Reading and writing are some of my favorite things to do.
